Nowadays, controlling a PC remotely is easier than ever before. More and more people are starting to use free remote desktop applications to connect to a remote PC from an offsite location. However, if you still don’t know a thing or two about remote access, then we’ll show you different ways on how you can access another computer remotely.
1. Windows Remote Desktop Connection or RDC - Windows Remote Desktop Connection or RDC is a Microsoft built-in feature that allows users to connect to a remote computer from a physically separate location. Once connected, the user can now access and control the remote computer as if he is sitting in front of it. He can run apps, manage updates, and even troubleshoot issues.
To enable Windows RDC, follow these steps below:
Enter remote settings into the Cortana search box
Click Allow remote access to your computer
From the System Properties, click the Remote tab
Select Allow remote connections to this computer
Make sure the box beside Network Level Authentication is ticked. This will ensure that you have a more secure remote access experience
However, it is important to note that Windows RDC, in general, can only be used on the same network. If you want a more convenient remote access solution that will allow you to establish a remote connection on a different network, then consider this next option we have for you.
2. Free Remote Desktop Software - Free remote desktop is a tool that allows you to connect your device to a remote computer from an offsite location. Once the connection is established, you can now access and control the computer as if you are physically present in front of it. You can open files, manage apps, and even perform administrative tasks. The good thing about remote desktop software is that they will allow you to connect to a specific device even on a different network. It is a more secure option than using Windows RDC as well as you don’t necessarily have to expose your device directly to the internet.
