Can I Remotely Access a Mac From a Windows Computer?

iCloud Drive - You can access your Mac files and folders if you store them in your iCloud drive. You can do this by simply agreeing to have your Desktop and Documents Folder be stored in your iCloud. To do this, follow these steps accordingly: 

• Launch System Preferences.

• Select iCloud.

• Select Options beside iCloud Drive. You’ll see all of the files and folders you can store in your iCloud drive. 

• Check the box beside Desktop & Documents Folder (this is already ticked by default).

• Some of your files will be stored in your Mac when the Optimise Mac Storage checkbox is ticked. However, once you run out of space, some of your files will automatically be stored in your iCloud. 

With your files and folders stored in your iCloud, you can access them from any computer, including Windows. You just have to log in with your Apple ID and you can view your files remotely. 

Windows Remote Desktop - On the device you wish to remotely connect to:

• Launch System Preferences 

• Select Sharing in the Internet and Wireless group

• You can also select the lock at the bottom left and enter your password should you wish to make any changes

• Check the Screen Sharing box on the left

• Click on the Computer Settings button on the right

• Click on the “VNC viewers may control screen with password”

• From there, set a password to use for screen sharing

• Select OK

• In order to make sure it’s set to “Allow access for: Only these users,” select the plus button at the bottom of the page

• Select your name from the list and click the Select button

• If you wish to share files as well, enable File Sharing by putting a check mark on it
